About the event
The presence of Spanish Christmas carols from the 18th century in the usual concert repertoire is still very rare. With the program sarao we intend to vindicate this repertoire by highlighting precisely the theatrical and popular aspects that have made the Christmas carol an unknown and even despised genre until very recently.
The program consists of a set of tonadillas, jácaras and cantadas by Juan Francés de Iribarren (1699-1767), former chapel master of the Malaga cathedral, and his very interesting, although not so well-known namesake in the cathedral of Santo Domingo de the Causeway, Diego Pérez de Camino (ca. 1735-1796). With this program we hope that viewers will get to experience what a fiesta could be like in 18th century Spain, with all its uninhibited fusion of genres and a brilliant mix of theatre, dance and music that makes for an impressive show.
